Achieving and maintaining the highest CNC Machining precision possible
CNC Quality Assurance CMM systems are an integral part of CED Services — and for good reason. From our beginning, CED’ Services’ mission has been to deliver the highest possible accuracy in Custom CNC Machined parts in order to effectively serve a diverse range of quality-monitored industries, These include include aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, pharmaceutical, and more where industry-set part tolerances and procedural validation cannot be compromised. With the ever-growing movement to on-shore U.S.A. manufactured parts, this commitment to achieving and verifying unwavering precision is more important than ever.
Early on, we realized that delivering on that standard required more than advanced machining technologies—it required world-class inspection systems capable of verifying every feature of every part. So along with investing in the best CNC Machining Equipment, we began expanding our Quality Assurance Lab integrate a robust lineup of Coordinate Measuring Machines, or “CMMs” Each measuring machine was carefully selected to address the diverse inspection challenges associated with delivering repeatable High-Precision Machining using a variety of CNC manufacturing and Secondary Finishing processes.
CED Quality Assurance Lab is equipped with advanced CMMs that include:
- Wenzel X Orbit WPH 20 Head
- Wenzel LH87
- Brown & Sharpe with Renishaw PH20
Together, these systems form the backbone of our CNC Quality Assurance strategy—providing the precision, repeatability, and speed needed to confirm the quality of even the most complex machined geometries.
Raising the bar in Coordinate Measuring with the Wenzel Orbit
Even with the largest complex parts, small-detail verification is essential to ensure parts deliver according to performance specifications. The Wenzel X Orbit WPH 20 Head provides this capability with advanced sensors, rigid construction, and a large measurement volume of X 35.5″, Y 59″, Z 27.6″.
Key advantages include:
- Micron-level accuracy to detect even the smallest variations
- Repeatability across production runs, ensuring consistent quality
- High-speed scanning that captures thousands of data points in seconds
- 3D measurement flexibility for complex geometries and curved surfaces.
This system is especially effective for intricate parts, hidden surfaces, and multi-axis features—delivering precision 3D models and comprehensive digital inspection reports that enhance traceability and customer confidence.
Granite stability meets CNC control with the Wenzel LH87
The Wenzel LH87 adds another layer of inspection capability to CED’s Quality Assurance Lab. With its granite bridge design and hydrostatic air bearings, this CMM is built for stability and thermal resilience—factors critical in maintaining accuracy across variable shop environments.
Highlights include:
- Granite construction for unmatched rigidity and low distortion
- Air bearings for ultra-stable, frictionless motion
- Thermal compensation to maintain accuracy despite temperature changes
- Versatile probing options, including touch-trigger and scanning probes.
The LH87 is ideal for verifying form, position, and relationships between features. It also supports reverse engineering, allowing us to capture existing geometries and convert them into precise digital models for redesign or replication.
Expanding capabilities with the Brown & Sharpe CNC CMM + Renishaw PH20
To extend our quality assurance capabilities even further, CED has invested in a Brown & Sharpe CNC Coordinate Measuring Machine. Brown & Sharpe is a name synonymous with precision measurement for over a century, and this system brings compact reliability and high-resolution accuracy to our inspection processes. Featuring a probe measurement travel capability of X24, Y26, Z19, the machine is paired with revolutionary Renishaw PH20 probe head to deliver level of versatility and throughput unmatched by traditional CMMs.
What Makes the PH20 System Unique:
- 5-Axis Motion: The probe head itself rotates and takes measurements, reducing machine structure movement
- Infinite Positioning: The head can be oriented at virtually any angle, reaching complex features without repeated stylus changes
- Head Touches: By taking measurements directly through head movement, cycle times are up to three times faster than conventional systems
- Inferred Calibration: Rapid calibration of new angles dramatically reduces setup time.
PH20 System Benefits for CED Clients:
- Increased throughput and shorter inspection cycles.
- Greater flexibility in accessing intricate or hard-to-reach geometries.
- Improved accuracy by minimizing dynamic errors during high-speed measurement.
- Reduced downtime with faster calibration and setup.
This combination of speed, adaptability, and accuracy makes the Brown & Sharpe PH20 system a perfect complement to our Wenzel CMMs—rounding out a versatile inspection suite capable of tackling virtually any quality assurance challenge.
Closing the loop with real-time Quality Assurance
At CED Services, all of our CMM systems are fully integrated into our machining workflow. This closed-loop quality control process allows for real-time inspection feedback, enabling immediate machining adjustments and maximizing first-pass yield.
The results include:
- Fewer defects and improved reliability.
- Reduced rework and lower production costs.
- Traceable digital inspection records for compliance and audits.
- Enhanced supply chain confidence and certification readiness.

5-axis mobility allows the Renishaw PH20 probe head to quickly adjust orientation to measure even the most complex part geometries.
Precision that sets the benchmark
As the CED Virtual Facility Tour will verify, CED Services has built one of the most comprehensive CNC Quality Assurance Labs in the industry. An accomplishment achieved by strategically combining the most advanced manual and visual inspection technology available with the computer-controlled versatility of the Wenzel Orbit, the stability of the Wenzel LH87, speed and flexibility of the Brown & Sharpe PH20 Coordinate Measuring Machine systems.
Our ongoing investment in these and other QA technologies reaffirms our commitment to delivering exacting precision, manufacturing efficiency, and the highest level of customer program success. Whether a project requires simple dimensional verification or complex 5-axis geometry inspection, the advanced CMMs found in CED’s Quality Assurance Lab provide the quality verification needed to ensure every part we deliver meets or exceeds even the most demanding CNC Quality Assurance standards.
